Permanent Residency in Canada

Canada is one of the most welcoming countries for immigrants, offering a variety of pathways to obtain Permanent Residency (PR). Becoming a Permanent Resident of Canada opens doors to high-quality healthcare, education, and excellent job opportunities, all while enjoying the diverse culture and natural beauty of Canada. At Bluefield Immigration, we are here to guide you through the various immigration programs that can help you achieve your Canadian dream.

Express Entry Program

Express Entry is Canada’s online immigration application system developed by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It is designed to select skilled workers and professionals for Permanent Residency (PR) in Canada based on their skills, education, work experience, and other factors.

How Express Entry Works:

Express Entry is a two-step process based on a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. Candidates are ranked according to their qualifications and other factors, and those with the highest scores are invited to apply for PR.

Step 1: Create an Online Profile

    • Eligibility Assessment: To get started, candidates must create an online profile in the Express Entry system.
    • Information Provided: The profile includes personal details such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and marital status.
    • Score Calculation: Once the profile is created, the system calculates a CRS score based on the information provided. The CRS score can be improved through:
      • Canadian Education (studying in Canada).
      • Canadian Work Experience.
      • Valid Job Offer from a Canadian employer.
      • Improved Language Skills (through better test results like IELTS or CELPIP).

Step 2: Pool & Invitation to Apply (ITA)

      • Express Entry Pool: After profile submission, candidates enter the Express Entry pool, where they compete with others based on their CRS scores.
      • Draws: IRCC conducts Express Entry draws twice a month. These draws determine the cut-off CRS score, i.e., the minimum score required to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
      • CRS Score Maximum: The highest possible score is 1200.
      • Invitation to Apply (ITA): Candidates with the highest scores receive an ITA from IRCC. Once issued, candidates have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residency.

Step 3: Processing Time:

After receiving the ITA, candidates typically experience a processing time of 4-6 months for their PR application.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allows Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals for permanent residency based on their ability to contribute to the local economy and meet specific labor market needs.

How the PNP Works:

  • Provincial Selection: Each Canadian province has its own criteria and selection process. Some provinces have specific streams for skilled workers, business investors, and semi-skilled workers.
  • Nomination by Province: If nominated by a province, applicants can apply for Permanent Residency through IRCC, either via the Express Entry system or directly under a non-Express Entry stream.
  • Provincial Quotas: Each province has a fixed quota of immigrants it can nominate each year.

Key Features of PNP:

  • Targeted to Provincial Needs: PNP allows provinces to select candidates who meet their unique economic and labor market needs, such as skilled workers, students, or entrepreneurs.
  • Variety of Streams: Some streams under the PNP are aligned with Express Entry, while others require separate applications.
  • Nomination Certificate: After a successful nomination by a province, candidates receive a Nomination Certificate, which gives them additional CRS points for Express Entry or directly applies to their permanent residency application.

Whether you are interested in applying through Express Entry or the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), Canada offers numerous pathways for skilled workers, students, entrepreneurs, and business investors to obtain permanent residency. Both programs offer unique advantages depending on your qualifications and career goals.
